About Us

Who are the hands behind QoLware?

QoLware is a start-up composed of an international team of researchers and professionals passionate about healthcare, wearables and the Internet of Things. We have 8+ years of experience in algorithm development, web-enabled technologies, and human-centred interaction.

The acronym “QoL” stands for Quality of Life which is closely related to our ultimate mission. At Qolware we create solutions that improve people’s quality of life through the use of state-of-the-art technology supporting healthy lifestyle and safe living.


Dr.-Ing. Cristina Soaz


Cristina’s analytical skills and her passion for innovation play a key role in bringing QoLware projects to life. Cristina received her Masters in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Vigo (Spain) and her Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from TU München. She has designed and coordinated clinical trials in healthcare knowledge and innovation communities at an European level as part of a vast network of entrepreneurs, researchers and healthcare professionals. Cristina has authored several conference and journal papers in the fields of gait & balance analysis and fall detection. With over six years of experience in human movement analysis using wearable technologies, at QoLware she is responsible for algorithm development.


Dr. Psy. Therese Tönnies

User experience

Therese’s understanding of user abilities and needs shapes how QoLware solutions attend to user’s interests. Therese holds a Master Degree in Psychology, Cognitive Ergonomics, and Linguistic Engineering as well as a PhD in Experimental Psychology, Neuropsychology and Human Machine Interaction completed at Montpellier University (France) and in collaboration with the Siemens Research and Technology Center (Germany). With six years of experience in establishing and testing human-centered interaction concepts and a special focus on medical devices, Therese guarantees that QoLware solutions always place user satisfaction and Quality of Life at the center of everything we do.


Alejandro Merello, MSc.


Alejandro leverages his IT expertise to oversee the technical aspects of QoLware’s product line. Alejandro holds a Diplom in Electronic Engineering from the Technical University Federico Santa María (Chile) and a Master Degree in Computer Science from the TU München. Before starting his second Masters, Alejandro worked for Accenture as consultant in innovation and consumer market research. He also worked several years as a software developer in companies like Nimbic and Telefónica, developing Electronic Design Automation software and cloud computing solutions. With his experience in embedded electronics he is responsible for reliable software implementation in the hardware.


Aleksandra Patz, M.A.


Aleksandra’s passion for strategic marketing and business innovation helps QoLware to grow into a highly competitive company in the smart connected devices market. Aleksandra earned a double-degree in German from the University Gdansk (Poland) and the University Leipzig (Germany), and a degree in Communications and Media from the University Leipzig. Currently, she is completing her degree in Business Administration at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University München, with a specialization in Marketing, Management and Innovation. Having worked for Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy, Aleksandra has already gained experience in the field of knowledge and technology transfer. She has also gained experience in strategic marketing through internships in diverse industrial technology companies.


Simon Bilgeri, BSc.

Software Development

Simon’s programming skills guarantees that Qolware’s software complies with the highest quality standards when it comes to software development, data security and data privacy. Simon holds a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and is currently finishing his Master Degree at this same university. His research interests include machine learning, positioning, and autonomous systems. Simon has worked as research assistant on real time computing systems and gained professional experience working at Siemens Corporate Technology on the parallelization of software running on multicore embedded systems.
